زهدي العدوي من مواليد محافظة الشرقية. عمل فى الفترة من التلاتينات إلى التسعينيات فى الكتير من المجلات والصحف بلغ عددها ٣٧ مجلة وجريدة مصرية منها مجلة الهلال عام ١٩٣٩، ومجلة الفصول عام ١٩٤٧، ومجلة المطرقة عام ١٩٤٧، وجورنال الكتلة، وجورنال الوفد، وجورنال الدستور، ومجلة الشعلة، ومجلة المصور، ومجلة الاثنين والدنيا اللى كانت تصدر عن دار الهلال، والزمان.
فى عام ١٩٥٥ انضم لمجلة روزاليوسف، وفى عام ١٩٥٦ دخل مجلة صباح الخير التى كانت تمثل مدرسة فكرية جديدة فى عالم الكاريكاتير، وهى مدرسة الجمع بين الكاريكاتير السياسى والكاريكاتير الاجتماعي.
تعرض زهدى للاعتقال فى الستينيات، وعندما اكتشف الظباط موهبته فى النحت طلبوا منه أن ينحت لهم تماثيل تجسدهم، و هو ما كان يتطلب أن يظل الضابط ساكن لا يتحرك أمام الفنان، فكان زهدى يستغل الوقت كى يحدث الظباط عن حقوق الإنسان فى المعاملة الطيبة، و أخذ يعرفهم بقدر هؤلاء المعتقلين أمثال حسن فؤاد، وصلاح حافظ، وفؤاد حداد، والدكتور لويس عوض.
تم اختياره عام ١٩٧٣ عضو فى لجنة التحكيم الخاصة بمهرجان الكاريكاتير، اللى نُظم فى الاتحاد السوفيتي. سعى جاهدًا بحماس ونشاط ومثابرة لإنشاء جمعية للكاريكاتير، التى ظهرت إلى الوجود فى مارس ١٩٨٤، وترأس الجمعية الفنان رخا باعتباره أول فنان كاريكاتير مصري. و فى عام ١٩٨٨ تم انتخاب زهدى العدوى رئيس لجمعية فنانى الكاريكاتير.
كان حلم زهدي هو إنشاء متحف للكاريكاتير وسعي طوال حياته لهذا المتحف ولكنه توفي قبل رؤية حلمه يتحقق. لذلك قرر محمد عبلة إهداء هذا المتحف إلي روح زهدي العدوي.
Born in Sharqeya Governate, Zohdy worked from the 1930s to the 1990s in numerous magazines and newspapers, totaling 37 Egyptian magazines and newspapers. These included Al Hilal Magazine in 1939, Al Fusool Magazine in 1947, Al Matraqa Magazine in 1947, Al Kitla Journal, Al Wafd Journal, Al Dostour Journal, Al Shu’la Magazine, Al Musawwar Magazine, Al Athnayn wa Al-Dunya Magazine, which was published by Dar Al Hilal, and Al Zaman.
In 1955 he joined Rose al-Youssef magazine, and in 1956, he contributed to Sabah El Kheir magazine, which represented a new intellectual school in the world of caricature, one that combined political and social caricature.”
Zohdy was arrested in the 1960s. When the officers discovered his talent for sculpting, they asked him to create statues of them. This required the officer to remain motionless in front of the artist. Zohdy used this time to discuss human rights and fair treatment with the officers. He introduced them to the worth of prisoners like Hassan Fouad, Salah Hafez, Fouad Haddad, and Dr. Louis Awad.”
In 1973, he was chosen as a member of the jury for the caricature festival held in the Soviet Union. With great enthusiasm, activity, and perseverance, he strived to establish a caricature association, which came into existence in March 1984. The artist Rakha was elected as the first president of the association. In 1988, Zohdy El Adawi was elected president of the cartoonists’ society.” Zohdy’s lifelong dream was to establish a caricature museum. He strived for this goal his entire life, but sadly passed away before seeing his dream realized. Therefore, Mohammed Abla decided to dedicate this museum to the spirit of Zohdy El Adawy.
